You Gave Your Life Away

Music and words by Tim Walsh

You could have come with the angels,
With glory and blinding light;
But You came to earth meek and lowly in birth
And cried as a child in the night.

You could have come in Your power,
And all would have bowed to Your throne;
But You came to earth not to rule, but to serve,
Showing how love would be known.

You came to seek and to save what was lost;
You came and humbled Your heart to the death of the cross;
Jesus, Your love was displayed
When You gave Your life away.

You could have called a thousand angels
To rescue You from Your pain,
But You gave Your life as a sweet sacrifice,
Knowing the love we would gain.

Jesus, Savior,
May Your heart be found in us,
For You showed greatness
Through humility and love.
