O Lord, When We the Path Retrace

Music by Unknown, words by James G. Deck

O Lord, when we the path retrace
Which You on earth have trod,
To man Your wondrous love and grace,
Your faithfulness to God;

Your love, by man so sorely tried,
Proved stronger than the grave;
The very spear that pierced Your side
Drew forth the blood to save;

Faithful amidst unfaithfulness;
'Mid darkness only light,
You did Your Father's name confess,
And in His will delight;

Unmoved by Satan's subtle wiles,
Or suffering, shame, and loss,
Your path, uncheered by earthly smiles,
Led only to the cross.

We wonder at Your lowly mind,
And then would like You do,
And all our rest and pleasure find
In learning, Lord, of You.
