O Lord, by You Invited

Music by Neuvermehrtes Meiningisches Gesangbuch; harm. Felix Mendelssohn, words by Unknown

O Lord, by You invited,
We gather in Your name,
Each willing guest delighted
Your presence here to claim.
In time of deepest sadness,
Lord Jesus, You did prove
Your heart could still find gladness
In pouring forth its love.

Oh, depth of Your compassion!
The night You were betrayed,
The emblems of Your passion
By You, a feast was made!
The feast is Yours, O Savior,
The bread, the cup, are Thine;
Your name the precious savor
Of ointment, all divine!

Your body, Lord, was broken,
That we might eat and live;
We drink the cup, the token
That You Your life did give.
We show Your death, confessing
We wait for You to come;
And safe beneath Your blessing
We onward journey home!
