1 O LORD, I have so many enemies; so many are against me. 2 So many are saying, "God will never rescue him!" Interlude 3 But you, O LORD, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. 4 I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain. Interlude 5 I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me. 6 I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side. 7 Arise, O LORD! Rescue me, my God! Slap all my enemies in the face! Shatter the teeth of the wicked! 8 Victory comes from you, O LORD. May you bless your people. Interlude For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by stringed instruments.

1 GOD! Look! Enemies past counting! Enemies sprouting like mushrooms, 2 Mobs of them all around me, roaring their mockery: "Hah! No help for him from God!" 3 But you, GOD, shield me on all sides; You ground my feet, you lift my head high; 4 With all my might I shout up to GOD, His answers thunder from the holy mountain. 5 I stretch myself out. I sleep. Then I'm up again--rested, tall and steady, 6 Fearless before the enemy mobs Coming at me from all sides. 7 Up, GOD! My God, help me! Slap their faces, First this cheek, then the other, Your fist hard in their teeth! 8 Real help comes from GOD. Your blessing clothes your people!
