1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied: 2 "God is powerful and dreadful. He enforces peace in the heavens. 3 Who is able to count his heavenly army? Doesn't his light shine on all the earth? 4 How can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone born of a woman be pure? 5 God is more glorious than the moon; he shines brighter than the stars. 6 In comparison, people are maggots; we mortals are mere worms."

1 Bildad the Shuhite again attacked Job: 2 "God is sovereign, God is fearsome--everything in the cosmos fits and works in his plan. 3 Can anyone count his angel armies? Is there any place where his light doesn't shine? 4 How can a mere mortal presume to stand up to God? How can an ordinary person pretend to be guiltless? 5 Why, even the moon has its flaws, even the stars aren't perfect in God's eyes, 6 So how much less, plain men and women--slugs and maggots by comparison!" Job's Defense God Sets a Boundary Between Light and Darkness

1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, 2 Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places. 3 Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise? 4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? 5 Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. 6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: 2 "Dominion and fear belong to Him; He makes peace in His high places. 3 Is there any number to His armies? Upon whom does His light not rise? 4 How then can man be righteous before God? Or how can he be pure who is born of a woman? 5 If even the moon does not shine, And the stars are not pure in His sight, 6 How much less man, who is a maggot, And a son of man, who is a worm?"

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered, 2 "Dominion and awe belong to Him Who establishes peace in His heights. 3 "Is there any number to His troops? And upon whom does His light not rise? 4 "How then can a man be just with God? Or how can he be clean who is born of woman? 5 "If even the moon has no brightness And the stars are not pure in His sight, 6 How much less man, that maggot, And the son of man, that worm!"

1 THEN BILDAD the Shuhite answered, 2 Dominion and fear are with [God]; He makes peace in His high places. 3 Is there any number to His armies? And upon whom does not His light arise? 4 How then can man be justified and righteous before God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be pure and clean? 5 Behold, even the moon has no brightness [compared to God's glory] and the stars are not pure in His sight-- 6 How much less man, who is a maggot! And a son of man, who is a worm!

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied: 2 "Dominion and awe belong to God; he establishes order in the heights of heaven. 3 Can his forces be numbered? Upon whom does his light not rise? 4 How then can a man be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure? 5 If even the moon is not bright and the stars are not pure in his eyes, 6 how much less man, who is but a maggot- a son of man, who is only a worm!"

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: 2 "Dominion and fear are with God; he makes peace in his high heaven. 3 Is there any number to his armies? Upon whom does his light not arise? 4 How then can man be in the right before God? How can he who is born of woman be pure? 5 Behold, even the moon is not bright, and the stars are not pure in his eyes; 6 how much less man, who is a maggot, and the son of man, who is a worm!"
